Demolition experts are preparing to tear down an abandoned north-east sports complex.
The outdated swimming pool at Fraserburgh’s Alexandra Terrace was closed by Aberdeenshire Council in 2013.
It was no longer needed after the launch of the town’s plush new £9million facility at James Ramsay Park.
Now the boarded up building, which dates back to the late 1960s, is being primed for demolition.
The once thriving venue has been fenced off and bulldozers are expected to arrive in the coming days.
The £140,000 operation is being carried out by Dundee-based from Safedem Ltd and was approved by local councillors last year.
The building, including pool, squash courts and community centre, will be completely levelled.
The council has said no firm decision has been made about the future of the land once the buildings are gone, but it is expected to be sold off.
An award-winning sculpture called Seagulls and Waves, which sat at the site for decades, has already been moved to the new centre.
The old pool, next to Fraserburgh Academy, was built in 1969 and was the oldest of its kind in Aberdeenshire.
Residents mounted a campaign for new leisure facilities more than a decade ago after a rise in complaints about the state of the baths.
The James Ramsay Park centre was officially opened by Scottish football star Kim Little in August 2012.
She said the new facility gave adults, young people and children the chance to try out a range of activities. As well as a 25-metre, six-lane pool the centre also features a cafe, sports hall and exclusive artwork.
