The owners of Aberdeen’s Dutch Mill have bought Westhill’s Broadstraik Inn – and are launching a major revamp.
The Broadstraik, in a prominent spot just off the A944 Aberdeen to Alford road, was established as a country pub back in 1905.
But the popular bar has been through a few ups and downs in recent years.
It was closed for much of last year, before being reopened under new management in October 2022.
They gave up their lease just three months later, with 29 people losing their jobs.
And the Elrick establishment has been closed since January.
Revealed: Dutch Mill owners are taking over Broadstraik Inn
For months, speculation has been mounting over the future of the venue – with work recently launched at the site.
And now we can confirm that one of Aberdeen’s top hospitality businesses is taking it over.
GHN Ltd, the company which owns the Dutch Mill on Queens Road and the Atholl Hotel on King’s Gate, has bought the Broadstraik Inn.
Company director, Richard Nicoll, has lived in Westhill for years and has fond memories of its glory days.
Mr Nicoll told us he is “aiming to take what works best from his current two venues and bring that to the Broadstraik”.
He hopes to have it open by the end of the year, all going to plan.
What work is taking place at the Broadstraik Inn?
A building warrant lodged with Aberdeenshire Council indicates that improvements worth £250,000 are under way at the pub eight miles west of Aberdeen.
The document reveals that work is taking place to extend the building to form a larger kitchen.
Additional toilets will be created too, along with a new entrance lobby.
There will also be a string of internal alterations, with Davidson Smith Architects overseeing things.
New rooflights will be formed, along with a double-height space over the bar.

It comes after the Dutch Mill battled to secure permission for its marquee earlier this year.
