The Middle Ages were brought back to life for visitors to an Aberdeenshire castle at the weekend.
The National Trust for Scotland’s Castle Fraser, near Sauchen, was the backdrop for all things mediaeval.
Hundreds descended on the ancestral home of the Fraser family to take part in the two-day event.
Helping transport participants back in time were a host of historic characters waiting to be encountered within the thick walls of the 15th century fortress.
Medical and surgical displays were on show in the great hall, while herbalists shared stories of healing and helping in the kitchen and the ancient art of caligraphy was demonstrated in the library.
Grislier tales of knights, battles and torture could also be heard echoing through the baronial halls and towers.
In the grounds, young visitors were given a chance to try their hand at archery or sword-fighting, and to dress in the garb of the day to take part in a mediaeval battle re-enactment.
There were also games and storytelling to enjoy.
Doline Kilgour, one of the organisers, said it had been a great family day out.
She said: “We were very busy today. The weather really helped. It made it a really good day for us. It was busier than Saturday.
“I don’t have final figures yet but I think somewhere in the region of 400-500 people visited the castle over the whole weekend.
“We have also had very good feedback from people.
“We have done mediaeval events in the grounds before but this is the first time we have staged something like this inside.
“There was a really mediaeval feel all through the castle.”
