Petrol heads in the north-east are gearing up for an annual event this summer, which showcases the best and fastest motors on the road.

Speed Fest is the largest gathering of rare super cars, performance cars and vintage cars in the region.

More than 100 specially selected cars will be on display at the event at the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford.

The main attraction of the event will be the short oval road circuit, which will host the Alford Pursuit and Alford Drag.

Here, spectators will have the chance to experience the thrill of the chase by “riding shotgun” in some of the cars.

Organisers James Parker and Tony Yule say this year is shaping up to be the best Speed Fest yet.

Mr Parker said: “It’s going to be a pretty full programme of on-track activities.

“We will be featuring some old favourites such as the drifters, the dragsters and the aerobatic display, but we will also have some new and exciting things to showcase too – such as karting and mini-moto demonstrations. Along with a rather special finale – a specially designed rally super special stage featuring some very impressive rally cars.”

Among the other attractions at the event will be Chris Williams and his iconic, vintage Bentley racing car.

As well as this, Colin Millar – from the Flyin Fyfer Drag Racing Team – will be on hand to demonstrate his nitrous-powered Outlaw Anglia dragster.

Mr Yule added: “We don’t want to give too much away, we have to keep our powder dry a bit.

“But we are just so excited by this year as it should be one to remember – we have gathered together a fantastic range of manufacturers to display their current models, along with some interesting and exciting trade stands.

“Not to mention all of the on-track stuff which has taken months to organise and arrange. We’ve ordered good weather for the event.”
