The north-east’s biggest town will host its first Muckle Market of the year today in an effort to lure shoppers back to the area.
Held in Peterhead’s Broad Street, the community event is expected to draw hundreds of local people into the town centre in a celebration of small businesses.
Dozens of local traders will be selling their wares, including confectionery, collectables, jewellery, and scarves during the event, which has been organised by the Here for You Partnership.
Market-goers will also be treated to a display from the renowned raptors from the Owl and the Pussycat Centre.
Here For You’s Ken Duncan said: “We are looking forward to seeing great community support for the first of our Muckle Markets and will be praying for fine weather.
“Not only is the market a great outlet for local crafters and groups to trade and promote their activities, it also helps bring in visitors and shoppers who support our local retailers.
“It’s great to see so many stores running special offers which we hope will bring added interest on the day.”
A similar event was abandoned last year over weather and safety fears but organisers are confident today’s market will be a big success.
Lending their colourful creative arts to promote the event will be a team from Theatre Modo who will be stilt-walking during the day and hosting an afternoon circus workshop in the town’s Drummers Corner.
The Muckle Market event will run from 10am until 3pm.
Three further events are planned for July 25, September 26 and November 28.
