The former licence holder for an Aberdeen nightclub has been fined after he was caught allowing the venue to be used after closing time.
Sean McGettigan allowed a farewell party to be held at the Garage on Windmill Brae for one of his colleagues who had just completed his last shift.
When the club shut at 3am on the Sunday, May 18 last year, the usual end of day meetings were carried out before the staff then congregated around the bar area to send off their friend.
Five hours later, after drinking into the early hours of the morning, all staff members left the club and headed home.
Yesterday McGettigan appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted allowing the consumption of alcohol within the club outwith the licensed hours.
He further admitted another charge of allowing people to remain on the premises and allowing the sale of alcohol after the permitted hours.
Yesterday the court heard that after the farewell party police received information that people had stayed late to drink at the club.
Fiscal depute Stephanie Ross said at one point someone was given a pint glass containing shots of vodka, gin, white rum, tequila, triple sec, cola and ice to drink.
Representing McGettigan solicitor Duncan Love said that his client “had not thought” about the consequences of allowing staff members to stay on and have a drink in order to say goodbye to their colleague.
He said that as a result of the court action against him he had now lost his job at the Garage and had moved to Edinburgh to work there.
Mr Love said that the outcome of the case may now mean that he has a “black mark” on the licence he currently holds for his employers in the capital.
McGettigan, of 77 Howden Hall Road, Edinburgh, was fined £600.
