Construction on the new multi-storey car park at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, paid for by the Wood Foundation, could begin next year.
Last month billionaire Sir Ian Wood donated £10million to fund the scheme at the Foresterhill site in an effort to stop the parking nightmare that has been plaguing patients and visitors for years.
At yesterday’s NHS Grampian board meeting, board members were told the car park could be constructed over the course of just 15 weeks.
Board member Terry Mackie said: “It’s a very welcome addition to the site, but this has to be accelerated as the number one priority before we build everything else because we’re going to keep losing car parking spaces.”
Graeme Smith, the board’s director of modernisation said: “The estimated construction time is 15 weeks. We’re pushing for construction next year.”
