A group of snappy Aberdeen fundraisers are making a Guinness World Record attempt for the most simultaneous selfies taken at once for charity.

The four-person strong team, dubbed Team Aberheart, will be making the attempt as part of a month of fundraising for the charity Wildhearts, who provide financial backing to developing businesses in poverty-stricken parts of the world.

The world record attempt, taking place on June 18 at a yet-to-be-decided location in Aberdeen, will aim to raise as much cash as possible towards the team’s goal of £10,000 by the end of the month.

Angela Coutts, one of the members of the team, said: “The idea was to do something a little bit different, and to do something that would do well on social media to spread our message as far as possible.

“And the best thing is it isn’t going to cost anything at all for us to put on, because everyone takes selfies all the time, so we won’t have to invest any of the money we’re raising into it like some of our other projects we’re doing.

“We got in touch with Guinness World Records, so it’s going to be an official attempt, so we’re needing as many people to come out as possible and really make it a success to raise as much as possible for Wildhearts.

“The location has yet to be confirmed, but it’s going to be a huge event in a very public place so as many people see us as possible.

“We’re even selling Team Aberheart branded selfie sticks ahead of the event from our website so people can take that perfect picture.

“I’ve heard so many people talking about the great work Wildhearts does for underprivileged people around the world so it was a no-brainer for us to choose them as our charity of choice.”

As well as the record attempt, Team Aberheart are also hosting a number of other fundraisers throughout June, such as a black tie dinner and are selling merchandise on their online store.

Mrs Coutts continued: “We’ve been quite fortunate in that we’ve had a lot of sponsorship already from local businesses, but we really need more to reach our goal.”
