A North East town will make its small screen debut tonight in an adaptation of Iain Banks’ Stonemouth.
Macduff was selected as the perfect backdrop for the two-part drama, with stars and crew descending on the harbour town last year
It will air tonight for the first time at 9pm.
Stonemouth was one of the author’s final works before he died of cancer in 2013.
Community leaders now believe that the work will be able to attract tourists to the north-east who want to see where the show was filmed.
Last night, Macduff councillor Mark Findlater, who lives in the town, said: “What I’m hoping is that people will see what a beautiful town we’ve got and people will come to our town to visit and see it – just the same as with the film ‘Local Hero’ and Pennan.
“Things like our church can become an iconic image, and the harbour.
“It can only be good, even for our businesses.”
The programme’s executive producer Andrew Calderwood said: “One of the themes of the story is young people choosing to stay in their home towns and making a difference there, and the choices they make which differ from their parents’ generation.”
Locations manager Michael Higson scouted numerous seaside towns across Scotland in his hunt for Stonemouth before settling on the Banff Bay fishing port, saying it was “the obvious choice”.
The first episode will be shown on BBC One Scotland.
