More than 700 runners will put their endurance to the test this weekend during the annual Ythan Challenge.
The popular event, now in its 15th year, takes participants on a gruelling multi-terrain obstacle race around the Ellon area.
Runners come from across the country to take part in the race, which raises cash for local organisations and groups.
Last year, a total of £8,500 was donated to a variety of causes including restoring the water supply at the Guide Hut in Ellon and getting a new defibrillator for the Meadows Sports Centre.
The 13K race will start from the sports centre at 11am on Sunday, and take participants along the River Ythan and through the Esslemont estate.
Alison Chalmers, chairwoman of the organising committee, said: “This year the event will give our runners challenges they have not encountered before with some completely new elements.
“We like to change things every year and there’s a lot of devious thought goes into devising new challenges and obstacles for our participants. We’re looking forward to their reaction when they see what they will face.”
Portlethen-based CETCO Energy Services is the main sponsor of the challenge for the second year running.
