Councillors in Aberdeen will hear details this week of a plan to demolish the city’s fire brigade headquarters to make way for new homes.
A special meeting will be held to discuss the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) proposals for its 4.3-acre site at Anderson Drive.
The fire service has already revealed that it plans to relocate its north-east headquarters to Dyce, where it will be closer to Aberdeen’s new bypass when it has been completed.
The existing station on Anderson Drive, which is next to the HQ, would remain operational under the scheme.
However, planners have said that the proposed residential development would cover the “vast majority” of the site.
Details of the plans are due to be unveiled at Thursday’s pre-application forum, which will be held because it is classed as a “major development” of more than 50 homes.
A formal planning application would be expected to be submitted after the hearing.
It is understood that the fire service proposes to build a mixture of about 100 homes and flats at the site.
A public exhibition will be held at Mastrick Community Centre in the coming weeks.
About 50 people who currently work at the current headquarters are expected to relocate to the new North Service Delivery Area Headquarters at Dyce.
The site will be the headquarters for all SFRS activities in Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland, while North Anderson Drive will continue to operate as a standard fire station.
A spokesman for the SFRS declined to comment last night.
