An Aberdeen man left seriously injured by a violent thief who stole his motorbike has died.
Raymond Cooper suffered a broken jaw and cheekbone and face fractures when he was beaten up in a lane outside his Aberdeen home.
The 60-year-old was punched to the ground and one of the thieves stamped on his head. He lay on the ground for almost two hours before he was found and taken to hospital in May 2011.
The father-of-two underwent emergency surgery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he remained for four months. While recovering from his ordeal, he suffered a serious stroke which left him severely disabled.
Mr Cooper needed face reconstruction surgery and ended up paralysed down one side, blind in one eye and deaf in one ear.
The tragic biker has now died and his daughter has arranged for a motorcycle hearse to come up from England for his funeral next Friday.
Motorbike thief, David Robertson, 26, admitted attempting to murder Mr Cooper while acting with another person, and stealing the motorbike when he appeared in court.
The court heard that Robertson and an accomplice broke into his shed in Meadow Lane where the red Honda bike was stored.
When Mr Cooper tried to stop them taking the bike, he was beaten up and left for dead on the ground.
Police caught the thief after receiving reports of a motorcycle being driven erratically in nearby streets.
The description and registration number led officers to Raymond’s house and he was discovered badly injured in the lane.
Robertson was jailed for six years at the High Court in Edinburgh in October 2011.
