Aberdeen City Council this week published a public contract notice seeking bidders for “the immobilisation and removal of illegally parked vehicles”. The firm will be responsible for clamping, removing and storing vehicles – as well as disposing the cars if not collected by their owners. The contract will be for three years in the first instance. It is estimated the successful firm will remove 190 vehicles vehicles a year, with six vehicles immobilised and 12 vehicles disposed of. In December, it was revealed that more than £2.4million was generated in parking fines from just five Aberdeen streets over in 2014. This was around £1 million more than in the previous year. The council aim to have the contract in place by July 27.
