A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a car on in Aberdeenshire at the weekend.

The crash happened at about 2pm on Saturday on the stretch between the B976 South Deeside Road at Strachan and the B974 Cairn o’Mount road.

The man was riding a blue Suzuki GSXR motorcycle when it collided with a grey Toyota Hilux car.

The road was closed for more than eight hours with local diversions in place while police investigated the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that sadly a man has died following a road traffic collision on the unclassified road between the B976 South Deeside Road at Strachan and the B974 Cairn o’Mount road.”

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or saw either of the vehicles being driven to come forward.

The accident happened just a week after 18-year-old Jordan Milne was killed when his car burst into flames on the A93 Kincardine O’Neil to Aboyne road last Saturday.

Four other people were seriously injured in the crash, which involved Mr Milne’s black MG and a silver Mercedes.

Banchory and mid-Deeside councillor Linda Clark said that motorcyclists were “particularly vulnerable” on the rural roads.

She said: “I don’t know the circumstances of what exactly happened but from what I’ve heard it breaks my heart.

“My heart goes out to everyone involved in this tragic incident from the friends and family of the man involved to the emergency services and the people in the other car.

“I can’t imagine how terrible it must be to receive that knock on the door telling you your loved one has passed away.

“Deeside is a fantastic place for motorcyclists, they love the roads and the beautiful scenery, and we love having them.

“But incidents like this show just how vulnerable people on motorcycles can be and that’s worth keeping in mind.”

Anyone with information about the latest accident should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
