Second phase of 8,000 Aberdeenshire development gets under way

The next phase of Aberdeenshire’s newest town will begin in the coming weeks.

Work at Chapelton of Elsick is well under way, with the first residents already settling into their new homes.

Now construction of the next 100 homes of the £2billion site, near Newtonhill, is due to get started.

The sale of land by Elsick Development Company (EDC) to builders AJC Homes, A&J Stephen and ZeroC will allow the second phase of the work to commence.

EDC director, Lord Southesk, said: “The planning of the second phase is another major milestone as we rapidly move towards the construction of the new community.

“More than 25 homes in Chapelton are now occupied and with the first commercial properties set to open in the coming months, residents will soon be able to enjoy a cafe, nursery school and dental practice.

“They will also benefit from the Park and Choose facility served by a community bus service to the main A90 stop to Aberdeen. This will open later on in the year, providing a sustainable alternative to using the car.

“Ultimately, the development of seven neighbourhoods will create schools, healthcare facilities, parks and community buildings.”

The developers have planning permission for 4,045 homes at Chapelton of Elsick but have a long-term vision for 8,000 properties at the site.

Managing director of AJC Homes, Alistair Aboyne, said: “It has been tremendously exciting to see just how many people have bought into the concept of new urbanism demonstrated by Chapelton.”
