Plans to construct a new hospital and multi-storey car park in Aberdeen went on public display yesterday.
NHS Grampian’s proposal to build the Baird Family Hospital and Anchor Centre at the Foresterhill campus were on show at Rosemount Community Centre.
The Baird Family Hospital will include maternity, gynaecology, breast screening and breast surgery services, as well as a neonatal unit, a centre for reproductive medicine, and an operating theatre suite.
The Anchor Centre will provide outpatient and day-patient investigation and treatment services for people with cancer and for patients with blood disorders.
There will also be a six storey car park build at the site to ease parking pressures, backed by a £10million donation from oil services businessman Sir Ian Wood, as well as 110 homes for staff.
The health board as lodged a pre-application notice with the local authority because it is a major development.
It is understood that the first phase of the development would be the new homes for public sector workers, followed by the long-awaited car park development, then the new hospital, and finally the Anchor Centre.
The car park will be similar in style to the multi-storey at Aberdeen International Airport.
Local councillor Bill Cormie said: “The exhibition was well attended and well worth going to.
“The plans are great news and these are going to be fantastic facilities for the whole of the north-east of Scotland, not just Aberdeen.
“But obviously there are huge traffic implications and I would imagine a full impact assessment would be carried out.”
Meanwhile, Aberdeen Football Club has lodged a pre-application notice to refurbish its training pitches at the Balgownie Playing Fields.
The planning authority has also given the go-ahead for a new 155-bed hotel at D2 Business Park in Dyce, near Aberdeen Airport.
