Little Alfie Gibson may only be two days old, but he has already given his parents enough excitement to last until his teens.
The tot made a dramatic arrival earlier this week – with his shocked father Barry delivering him in the front porch.
Mr Gibson was woken up by his wife Angela at about 12.45am on Tuesday after her contractions started.
The couple sprung into action, calling Mrs Gibson’s mother to come and get their six-year-old son Dylan so they could race to the hospital.
But within 10 minutes of saying goodbye to Dylan, the couple realised they did not have time to go anywhere.
Mr Gibson, 41, of Foveran, said: “Dylan was gone five, 10 minutes and we were just away out to the car when Angela announced the baby was coming and wasn’t going to wait.
“At first I didn’t believe it – or didn’t want to believe her – we couldn’t be having the baby in the driveway.
“We went back into the house, inside the porch and I could see the baby was coming.
“I grabbed the phone and called 999 and the operator said they would send an ambulance, and took me through what I needed to do – which was mainly not to drop him.”
By the time the paramedics arrived, 31-year-old Mrs Gibson had given birth to little Alfie, who weighed 8lb 11oz.
Mr Gibson, who is a physics teacher at Aberdeen Grammar School, said: “It was all so fast.
“Angela has an app on her phone that counts how far apart the contractions are. They were ridiculously close to each other, about one-and-a-half minutes.
“From her first contraction until he was born was about 45 minutes, we can’t believe how quickly it happened.”
Mother and baby were taken to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital to be checked over, but are now back at home with doting big brother Dylan.
The youngster had nicknamed his brother-to-be “Little Dude” and was surprised at his quick arrival.
Mr Gibson, 41, added: “Dylan is so excited. After the ambulance came I called my mother-in-law and spoke to Dylan, and told him Little Dude was here. It went really quiet on the phone and I had to ask if he was still there.
“I told him we’d had the baby at the house and he couldn’t believe it. He was really excited and very happy to go to school and tell all his friends the big news.”
