An annual folk festival has proved so popular this year organisers have added more to the programme.

The Stonehaven Folk Festival begins next Thursday (July, 9), with headline acts over the four-day event including the Treacherous Orchestra, Le Vent Du Nord and the Young’uns.

Tickets for many of the main events in the town hall have been snapped up, but organisers have lined up two late-night concerts at the British Legion.

Next Friday, there will be an American night at the legion with Home Made Jam and Maryland singer Kate Lissauer. The next night will have a more local theme, with duo Ross Hull and Cameron Grant and band Tannara due to perform.

Singing Kettle founder Artie Trezise will perform his new one-man family show Artie’s Tartan Tales on the Saturday afternoon.

The first treat lined up for visitors on Thursday is a showcase concert and ceilidh, with the Old Blind Dogs, North East Folk Collective, fiddler Paul Anderson and traditional singer Shona Donaldson among those lined up to perform.

More than 60 fringe events, including storytelling, workshops, sessions in local venues, the World Paper and Comb Championships and the popular aqua ceilidh at Stonehaven Open Air Swimming Pool will also be held.

There will also be two free afternoon concerts in Market Square featuring some of the festival guests and local musicians and singers.

Charlie West, festival chairman, said: “This is perhaps one of the most ambitious line-ups for a while with several big names and a multitude of fringe events to organise. We are all really looking forward to the weekend.”

The festival runs from July 9 to 12. For full details visit www.stonehavenfolkfestival.co.uk
