Did anyone living in Aberdeenshire get any sleep last night?
Thunder and lightning lit up the night sky across the city and ‘shire in the early hours of Thursday morning as a huge storm passed over the north-east.
Hundreds of people took to social media posting pictures and videos of the weather which kept the city awake for almost two hours from 2am with a spectacular display.
These weather maps show how the storm looked on the map.
Forecasters said there would be some respite from the past two day’s searing temperatures, which reached a maximum UK recorded temperature of 36.7C (98F) and caused roads to melt and rail service cancellations.
MeteoGroup’s Nick Prebble said: “Temperatures will be suppressed today, about 10C lower than yesterday with highs of 25C or 26C. It will be noticeably cooler but still warm.”
Here are some of the best photos and videos uploaded to Twitter over the course of the early morning.
