Bird owners in the north-east are being urged to take care when leaving windows and doors open in the warm weather.
With temperatures soaring this week, the Scottish SPCA is reminding people to ensure they do not let their birds escape if they are trying to ventilate their homes.
Last month, the charity had to rescue five birds – three budgies and a cockateel – that had managed to flee from their homes.
Claire Tyczynska, assistant manager at the charity’s Drumoak rehoming centre, said: “We are experiencing hotter weather now so it’s likely there are going to be more instances of domestic birds straying from home with windows and doors open.
“If people are wanting a bit more ventilation for their birds we would encourage them to use fans to the keep the temperature down.
“A lot of people like to let their birds ‘stretch their wings’ if you like, we would ask them to make sure they lock their windows and doors.”
To report a pet missing or if you spot a stray, you can contact the rehoming centre on 03000 999 999.
