She shot to the top of the charts when she penned a heartfelt song for her boyfriend after finding out he had cancer.
Now, budding pop princess Lilian Macdonald has been tipped for super stardom as she prepares to storm the charts once again.
The 18-year-old former Elgin Academy pupil has revealed how she has been given the chance to release her debut album later this year – an ambition she might never have achieved was it not for the incredible response she got for the track she wrote Keiran MacRonald last year.
Lilian went straight in at number one on the iTunes singer/ songwriter chart with ‘Never be Alone’, a moving tribute that started out as a letter she wrote to her 18-year-old boyfriend from Aberdeen when she found out he had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
She wanted to reassure him that everything would be OK, and make him appreciate that even on his worst days he was not fighting blood cancer alone.
The track reached number 33 in the main iTunes chart – above massive chart-toppers like Ed Sheeran – and got the schoolgirl noticed by producers across the country. It also amassed more than 100,000 views online.
Most important of all, she raised more than £2,000 for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity in her battle to increase awareness of the condition her boyfriend was bravely battling.
Following a relapse at the end of last year – a diagnoses which broke Lilian’s heart – Kieran’s next step will be to visit a cancer unit in Glasgow to undergo a stem cell transplant.
“Although it is a very rough and scary road ahead, it will hopefully be the cure to it all, and we’ll be able to live a hospital-free life again,” Lilian said.
In the meantime, the couple – who both celebrated their 18th birthdays in January – are looking forward to the release of her first album, which is now available to pre-order on iTunes and will be released on August 15.
Lilian said that although she had always dreamed of releasing her own music, it was her courageous boyfriend who had encouraged her to make it a reality.
She said he could not wait for the rest of the world to listen to what she had been working so hard on.
Through her music, Lilian is also encouraging people to sign up to the stem cell donor register and save someone’s life.
“I’m so excited, scared, happy and nervous,” she said.
“I don’t know if this would have happened so soon had it not been for how well Never Be Alone did.
“It’s nice to know that people out there want to listen to what I play.”
