A Buchan secondary school has rocked its way to a podium finish at an annual UK music and dance competition.
The Peterhead Academy team beat schools from across the country to take third place in the Rock Challenge finals at Milton Keynes.
The pupils travelled more than 500 miles to take part in the competition which encourages youngsters to choreograph and star in a short musical.
Last night, a spokeswoman for Rock Challenge, which is presented by the Be Your Best Foundation, said the Peterhead group had “mesmerised” audiences with their story of a mad scientist who attempts to end the planet’s food shortages in the year 3015 by genetically modifying plants.
“The variety and attention to detail in every costume was exemplary and bold makeup and hair further embellished their innovative designs,” she said.
“In particular, futuristic neon costumes worked harmoniously with the lighting and soundtrack to really convey their theme of bio-fortification with clarity. Incredible to watch, this performance was truly worthy of third place.
“Thoughts will now turn to what Peterhead Academy will create for 2016.”
The Rock Challenge has grown in popularity in the three years since it was launched, and now attracts hundreds of entrants from schools and colleges across the UK.
Be Your Best Foundation patron, Baroness Ruth Henig, presented the awards at the finals on Monday night.
She said: “This is the third national final that we have had in the UK and the standard tonight is the highest that I can ever remember, it was absolutely unbelievable.”
