The rain has stopped, the panic is over and the streets of Aberdeen are just about returning to normal.
Over Saturday and yesterday, the city saw the amount of rain that we would normally expect over an entire month – as a result we saw cars stranded, businesses forced to close and even the airport flooded.
Some of the most dramatic pictures from yesterday came from Polmuir Road in the city where cars almost disappeared as water levels continued to rise, however, pictures from the same street today show the road is now dry and safe for drivers.
Bridge of Don’s Jesmond Street was closed for a time yesterday after drains gave way and man hole covers cracked under the downpour, however, the road is now open and council teams have been out on the street starting the recovery work.
Some of the other worst affected streets across the city included Holburn Street, Deemount Terrace, Anderson Drive, Market Street, Westburn Park, Willowpark Crescent, the Lang Stracht, Portree Avenue, Froghall Road and Golf Road – a number of the roads have been left damaged.
Drivers experienced nightmare conditions on each of the roads, while buses and trains were delayed and cancelled and people flying to and from Aberdeen Airport were hit with a number of problems as the airport terminal flooded – however, travel across the city has just about returned to normal today as things dry up.
While the roads are now clear of water, the real work is just starting for a number of council teams who are currently stationed across the city starting on repairs to the damage caused by the downpour.
