A man has admitted embezzling thousands of pounds from a city-centre supermarket.
Over the course of a month, Robert McIntosh pocketed £2,135 from self service tills at the Sainsbury’s Local on Union Street, Aberdeen.
He was caught after the manager noticed the tills were significantly short of cash.
When CCTV was checked, McIntosh was seen on numerous occasions opening up the cash registers and taking handfuls of notes.
Yesterday the 28-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted committing the offence between December 15 last year and January 7.
The court heard that when arrested and interviewed by police, he was extremely remorseful and offered to pay back the money he had stolen.
At the time he said he had no idea exactly how much cash he had taken.
McIntosh, of 4F Salmon Lane, Stonehaven, who was representing himself in court yesterday, submitted a letter to Sheriff Edward Savage explaining his actions.
The sheriff deferred sentence until next month for background reports to be carried out and urged McIntosh to seek legal advice.
