Runners will descend on a popular Aberdeen beauty spot this Halloween as part of a huge fundraising effort.
The Dandara 5k and family fun day will help support moves to breathe new life into Hazlehead Park.
This year’s event takes place on October 31 and participants are being encouraged to dress up for Halloween.
Organised by the Friends of Hazlehead and Sport Aberdeen, there will be about 1,300 spaces for youngsters and adults at the Dandara 5k, the 1k and 2k children’s races and the 600m fun run.
Funds raised will go towards ongoing improvements at the park, some of which are already under way thanks to funding from last year’s inaugural event.
Projects include the replanting of the Queen Mother rose garden, upgrading core paths, creating sign-posted running routes and renovating and improving the popular pets’ corner.
Donald Shaw, chairman of the Friends of Hazlehead, said: “We are so fortunate to have this fantastic park in Aberdeen and this event is a great opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities to make the absolute most of this beautiful space and enjoy what we are sure will be a brilliant day out.
Peter Best, Dandara’s Aberdeen sales manager added: “We are passionate about helping the local community so we’re more than pleased to once again sponsor this fun and exciting day out. Friends of Hazlehead do a fantastic job of enhancing and improving the park so we hope to see a lot of runners taking part.”
The first event will begin at 9.30am on October 31, with races continuing into the afternoon. Register at www.friendsofhazlehead.co.uk or e-mail friendsofhazlehead@gmail.com.
