A kind-hearted pensioner has donated his birthday money to two local causes.
Alec McRobert turned 80 last month and celebrated with about 50 family and friends at Luthermuir Hall.
Instead of presents, the grandfather-of-five asked for donations to NHS Tayside’s Benevolent Fund at Stracathro Hospital and the Luthermuir Hall and Parks Association.
The generous guests donated a total of £450, and yesterday Mr McRobert presented the money to the two charities.
The £200 donated to the Luthermuir Hall and Parks Association will be put towards a defibrillator for the village.
Mr McRobert, of Ivy Cottage, Luthermuir, said: “There were over 50 people at the party, a lot of relations from all over – Forres, Elgin, Huntly, Fyvie and Rothienorman – as well as some friends.
“I just decided I didn’t want any presents – I don’t need or want anything – so decided to donate the money to charity instead.”
The great-grandfather said he was delighted to raise £450, which was about what he was hoping.
“We’ve had different visits to Stracathro Hospital over the years, so it seemed a good cause,” he added.
“The rest went to the Luthermuir Hall and Parks Association for a defibrillator, because we want one in the village.
“We’re really delighted with how much we raised thanks to the generosity of family and friends.”
