Fire crews were called to the blaze, in a domestic garage in the Castle Street area of Huntly, at around 3.35pm. Three appliances – two from Huntly and one from Keith – were called to the scene. Fourteen firefighters battled for several hours to get the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding properties. Another support vehicle from Elgin, with two firefighters on board, was also called to assist the crews. The blaze was brought under control shortly before 5pm, and emergency services left the scene at around 5.40pm. There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but the garage was left extensively damaged. Much of the internal building was melted and reduced to charred embers. The roof of the building was also fire-damaged, with tiles missing and the windows had smashed in the heat. The owner of the property declined to comment last night.
