A postman has been banned from the road after he admitted getting behind the wheel while more that twice the legal drink drive limit.
Haldors Balodis appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, having failed to turn up for a preliminary hearing on June 11.
The court heard the 42-year-old had been working on the morning of January 31 this year and bought some beers in the afternoon.
At around 10.50pm that day he was stopped by police on Devonshire Road, Aberdeen, after his driving gave them reason to suspect he was under the influence of alcohol.
A road side breath test showed he had 45 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.
Representing the first offender, solicitor Graeme Morrison said his client had been drinking earlier in the day and thought enough time would have passed by the time he got behind the wheel.
He said Balodis had forgotten about his initial court appearance and had been trying to hand himself in since realising there was a warrant out for his arrest.
Balodis, of 4 Devonshire Road, Aberdeen, was fined a total of £450 and disqualified from driving for 18 months.
