Do you remember waiting for your letter from Hogwarts to arrive on your 11th birthday?
Well, plenty of people may have thought their dreams were finally coming true as ‘Environment Day’ took place at Duthie Park on Sunday (July 19) –featuring an appearance by two of the owls from the Harry Potter films.
Hedwig and Errol, from the Owl and Pussycat Centre near Maud, who featured in the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone drew in crowds of fans.
RSPB, Satrosphere, North East Scotland Biological Records Centre (NESBReC), the Open Air Laboratories network (OPAL), Aberdeen Bee Keepers’ Society, the Butterfly Conservation Society, an allotments market stall, Aberdeen City Council Waste Aware, the Royal Horticultural Society of Aberdeen, and Aberdeen Play Forum were all in attendance.
The event was organised by the Duthie Park Rangers, who were also on hand, raising awareness of changes and challenges with the environment.
Speaking before the event communities, Housing and Infrastructure Vice-Convener Councillor Jean Morrison said: “This will be a great event with lots of events and things to do for all the family.”
