An investigation has been launched into the cause of a fire at a north-east sheltered housing block.
Firefighters were called to Peterhead’s North Street after a blaze broke out in an unoccupied flat at about 2.30am yesterday.
It took about an hour for the teams to bring the flames under control.
Nobody was inside, but the next-door neighbours were evacuated until the drama was over.
Now police and fire officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “Control received the call at 2.32am dispatched two appliances from Peterhead and one from Maud to the scene,” she said.
“Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a main jet and a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze. There was no one inside the property and no casualties.
“The fire was brought under control by 3.33am and the last appliance left the scene at 4.18am.”
One neighbour, who did not give his name, said he had not been able to leave his home while the crews tackled the fire.
“We were allowed to stay in our house, but they put up a cordon so we couldn’t get out,” he added.
The fire-hit property, which neighbours confirmed has been unoccupied, was last night boarded up to prevent unauthorised access.
