Plans to transform a disused toilet block into an eatery have been resurrected.
The idea for the small takeaway in Turriff’s Duff Street was first mooted by the team behind Cinnamon restaurant in Aberdeen in September last year.
Aberdeenshire Council rejected the application three months later, but now architectural firm Interurban Developments has resubmitted the plan.
In a statement to Aberdeenshire Council, agent John Russell said: “It is considered that the change of use will make a material, albeit small scale contribution, towards the vitality and viability of Turriff town-centre.
“Accordingly it is requested that the council grant conditional planning consent as ultimately there are no justifiable grounds for withholding permission.”
The original scheme met with a flurry of objectors and now local residents have raised concerns again.
Formally objecting to the planning application, neighbour George Mearns wrote: “While I support business growth, I believe this is the wrong application for a proposed food takeaway.
“As we all know, there is already a chip shop on the other side of the road, which does cause congestion to the flow of traffic during opening hours.”
Mr Mearns added: “Allowing another food outlet in Duff Street needs serious discussion.”
The architectural firm has also submitted an alternative proposal to demolish the building and replace it with a small home.
Both proposals are now available on the local authority website for comment.
