A city-centre shoe store that has lain vacant for more than two years could be the site of a new coffee shop if plans are approved.
Edinburgh developer Format Building Design is seeking permission from Aberdeen City Council to transform the former Foot Factory store, on the corner of Union Street and Shiprow, into a coffee shop and delicatessen.
Six jobs were lost when the Foot Factory, at 21 Union Street, closed its doors.
Another developer previously attempted to breathe new life into the empty building by turning it into a take-away, but it was refused by the council’s planning committee amid concerns about parking, smells and anti-social behaviour.
In the project’s planing statement, the developers esd: “To conclude, the proposed development will introduce a very positive use to the retail frontage which will enhance the vitality and the viability of the Union Street area.
“It will be a mixed use and will retain a retail function whilst also providing a vibrant social facility within the principal shopping area.”
