More than £1.5million confiscated from criminals has been used to support community projects across Aberdeen.
Funding from the Cashback for Communities scheme has also helped to create almost 39,000 free opportunities and activities for the city’s youngsters.
Since the Scottish Government scheme started in 2008, tens of millions of pounds have been taken from criminals and reinvested back into society.
Kevin Stewart, Aberdeen Central MSP, said it was a “great initiative” and added: “I’m pleased to hear that criminals in Aberdeen are over £1.5 million worse off and that money has been used to provide almost 39,000 opportunities for young people across this city.
“Crime rips the hearts out of communities.
“That is why the Scottish Government is using the proceeds of crime act to ensure, not only that crime in Scotland will never pay, but that the money taken out of communities is able be reinvested, repairing the damage that has been done.”
The scheme has helped fund sports, youth work, culture and employability projects across the city, including the outdoor football pitch at the Sports Village.
