Runners are being sought for the third year of a gruelling six-mile obstacle race through an Aberdeenshire woodlands.

The Banchory Beast Race on Saturday, September 26, will follow a tricky route along muddy trails and thick pine forest littered with 20 “mega obstacles”.

Organisers are looking to attract scores of runners, joggers and adrenaline junkies following the success of the event throughout the past two years.

The race will start on the banks of Knockburn Sports Loch and take in the surrounding countryside – including obstacles such as 12ft high walls, bogs thick with muck, dark tunnels, rope nets and even barbwire “crawl unders”.

It is being held in support of Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) and is organised by Firetrail Events and Prime Four.

Each participant will be asked to contribute £5, which will go towards CHSS.

The charity’s regional fundraising manager Paul Corrigan said the race had a “fantastic energy”, adding: “We love seeing everyone push themselves and come up smiling at the end.”

Mr Corrigan added that the money raised would help improve “the quality of life for people living with the debilitating effects of chest, heart and stroke illness”.

He said: “We’re already seeing lots of last year’s entrants coming back for more but want even more people to get their chance to tame the beast this year.”
