Police have warned drivers to observe local parking restrictions as thousands flock to the Turriff Show.
The agricultural gala attracts masses of visitors from across the country and officers have warned that illegal and dangerous practices will not be tolerated.
During the 150th gathering last year – which was visited by The Queen – 42 parking tickets were issued to vehicles around the show ground.
Last night Inspector Jamie Harrison said: “There will be temporary no waiting restrictions in force on streets around the Turriff Show ground again for this year’s show.
“These are in place to maintain the flow of traffic and ensure that there is always access to the show ground for emergency services.”
A host of restrictions – marked by cones – will be in place, including on Station Road, Banff Road, Market Street, Crown Street and Balmellie Road.
Show-goers are also reminded that it is an offence to park on grass verges.
Rose Logan, chairwoman of the Turriff and district community council, said a balance had to be struck.
“People do seem to park all over the place. Police put out no parking bollards but in the past sometimes they have been abused,” she said.
“It is difficult because so many people come to the show and we don’t want to discourage them.
“Some areas of the town can become quite congested, particularly when emergency vehicles need to get through.”
Turriff Councillor Sandy Duncan noted that a fine cost “a hell of a lot more” than entry to the car park.
“This year it’s £4 to park legally – surely not a fortune,” he said.
The 151st Turriff Show which begins on Sunday will be one of the busiest two-day farming events in the country this year.
