Police are warning residents in the west end of Aberdeen to be vigilant after bogus workmen tried to con a woman out of more than £1,000.
The two men called at the house in the Airyhall area on Monday, July 20, and offered to carry out repair work in exchange for what police describe as a “low four figure sum of cash”.
The work agreed was not completed and the pair asked for more money to finish the job.
One of the men was aged 30-40 with fair hair and stubble, while the other was between 20-30 with short dark hair.
Both spoke with Scottish accents.
Police are also keen to trace a green Nissan Micra and a red Vauxhall Astra which were seen in the Craigton Road and Beechill Gardens areas between the Monday and Friday, July 24.
Constable Conor McLeod said: “Rogue traders will often target the vulnerable members of our community and we are asking for the public’s assistance to trace these men.
“Charities such as Aberdeen Care and Repair provide a list of trusted traders and advice for people in Aberdeen requiring repair work.
“We’d urge members of the public to remain vigilant and not to hand over cash to workmen upfront, unless they are confirmed as genuine.
“A simple message is, ‘if in doubt, keep them out’.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
