A fleet of classic cars passed through the Queen’s Highland home yesterday as they took part in a pilgrimage through the north-east in aid of a local cancer charity.
The vintage motors made their way from Elgin, across the Lecht into Royal Deeside before finishing in Aberdeen – all in honour of Clan Cancer Support.
The second year of the Clan Cavalcade drive raised thousands of pounds for the charity and attracted a huge number of car enthusiasts from across Scotland.
The event began at Decora in Elgin with the vehicles waved off by Grenville Johnston, the lord lieutenant of Moray, before passing through Tomintoul, the Balmoral Estate near Ballater and Banchory.
The drive was organised by Ron Billings – a support volunteer for Clan in Elgin and a member of Moray Historic Wheels.
Gemma Powell, Clan’s Aberdeenshire area service co-ordinator,said: “Witnessing the cars pass through both Ballater and Banchory was brilliant and it really got the towns talking about Clan.
“It’s been a fantastic awareness raiser for us and I’d like to thank the drivers and organisers for taking the time to come and visit our wellbeing and support centres in Deeside.”
Clan provides services to people affected by cancer across Aberdeen city and shire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
Clan’s Moray services coordinator, Tracy Sellar, said: “Last year was the first time that the Clan Cavalcade had been organised and it was such as success, helping raise nearly £3,000 for the charity, that we decided to do it all again this year.
“It was fantastic to see cars of all shapes and sizes from yesteryear come together in aid of Clan and to be able to drive right up to Balmoral Castle and stop for a photo was the icing on the cake of what was a fantastic day out.”
