Council chiefs have moved a step closer to bringing more affordable homes for public sector workers to Aberdeen.
The local authority has launched a hunt for a firm to carry out surveying and cost consultancy work for a development on the former Summerhill Academy site on Lang Stracht
Plans for 375 flats at the site were revealed in March.
It is hoped the homes will help tackle the shortage of affordable rental properties and help attract more public sector staff to the city.
The surveying firm will be awarded £57,750 for the work.
The Summerhill project is part of proposals to build 1,000 new homes on eight sites across Aberdeen which were approved in principle by city councillors last August.
The council is due to deliver 2,030 affordable homes in Aberdeen by May 2017 and 2,430 by 2019.
Sites identified include Bucksburn Farm, the former Craighill, Tillydrone and St Machar primary schools, East Woodcroft, the site of the former Summerhill Academy, the land occupied by Kincorth Academy and the former Aberdon care home in Tillydrone.
Aberdeen City Council’s convener of communities, housing and infrastructure, councillor Neil Cooney, said: “This is just another step in the process of delivering 375 new affordable homes on the Summerhill Academy site to help meet the city council’s priority plan to increase the number of low-cost properties to rent in Aberdeen.
“The Summerhill project is part of this council’s Strategic Infrastructure Plan (SIP), which commits to the delivery of 2,030 affordable homes by May 2017 and 2,430 by 2019.”
