A north-east lifeboat service has called in the help of an Ayrshire-based craft while its own trusty vessel is refitted.
Fraserburgh’s RNLI branch will sail the 46ft Trent-class Willie and May Gall boat to Ireland next week to keep the engines and equipment aboard running smoothly and up-to-date.
Victor Sutherland, Fraserburgh RNLI’s coxswain, said that a relief team from Troon had given its boat for eight weeks.
He said the charity’s lifesaving work would continue without interruption.
Mr Sutherland said: “Every seven years the boat goes for one of these refits, and this time we’ll be having re-conditioned engines fitted to keep her going for the next seven,” he added.
“The navigation systems will also be upgraded to make sure the boat is at its best all of the time. There’s a lot of maintenance done at the station here already, but this is basically an MOT to keep her right.
“The service we provide will remain exactly the same. We’ll still be operational.”
