A man was critically ill in hospital last night after a crash between his super car and a 4×4 on a north-east road at the weekend.
Police are investigating the accident – between a silver Porsche 911 GT3 and a grey Toyota Hilux – on the B976 Birse to Finzean road, near the Finzean Old School junction around 7.10pm on Saturday night.
Police arrived at the scene a short time later and closed the road off for more than nine hours.
Fire and rescue crews – including two appliances from Banchory and Aboyne, with 11 firefighters on board – were called to the scene to assist police.
The 30-year-old driver of the Porsche was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with injuries described as “life-threatening”.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux was uninjured.
Last night, Councillor Linda Clark – Banchory and Mid-Deeside ward – wished the injured man a “speedy recovery”.
Councillor Clark said: “I’m very saddened this has happened because it’s always a tough call that get anyone gets to find out their family member has been involved in what’s seemingly now a very serious accident.
“I believe the other driver wasn’t hurt but I feel for them because although they haven’t been injured, no one walks away from that kind of accident unscathed – one minute you’re there and the next you’re involved in a crash, it must be a great shock.
“I also would like to pay tribute to the emergency services who, once again, responded in a swift and efficient manner.
“I wish him a speedy recovery.”
A police investigation is under way and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Sergeant Rob Warnock, said: “Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are at an early stage and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the silver Porsche or the Toyota Hilux prior to the incident to contact police.”
Elsewhere, emergency services were called to a two-car crash near Trump International Golf Links in Balmedie at 11.50am on Saturday.
The collision – involving a silver Mercedes and a black Alfa Romeo, happened on the A90 at the turn-off for the golf course.
No serious injuries were reported.
