Families are being invited to take part in a celebration at a revamped Aberdeen park next month.
Seaton ParkFest is a free mini-festival aimed at entertaining families and youngsters while showcasing the natural attractions of the popular park.
The festival will also be an opportunity for voluntary group Friends of Seaton Park (FoSP) to officially open the newly-refurbished children’s play area, where £80,000 has been spent on new equipment.
ParkFest, which is the first event of its kind to be held in the park for many years, is being hosted by FoSP in partnership with the city council’s environmental services.
FoSP chairwoman Sheila Gordon, said: “On September 12, we invite everyone across the city to help celebrate such an exciting and successful year.
“We will be joined by Aberdeen Play Forum and a host of other attractions.
“There will be catering, but, if you prefer, please bring a picnic and enjoy a good day relaxing in the park.”
FoSP has already received ring-fenced funding of £100,000 from the city council’s finance committee towards major projects in Seaton Park.
It is hoped match funding can also be attracted to further boost the cash earmarked for the refurbishment of resident steam engine, Mr Therm and upgrading the park’s network of paths.
The train, which used to carry coal from Aberdeen Harbour to the city’s gas works, was gifted to the park in 1976.
Now Aberdeen Harbour Trust’s Community Action Fund has awarded FoSP £9,000 over three years towards the cost of renovating Mr Therm and his three carriages.
The festival will run from 1pm to 4pm.
