A man was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after his car veered off a busy Aberdeen road and crashed into a lamppost.
The black Mercedes had been heading southwards on the B977 Great Southern Road when the collision happened outside a row of properties near Murray Terrace.
The call was made to the emergency services at 1.15pm and police, ambulance and fire services all sent crews to the scene.
A police spokeswoman said: “A man in his 60s was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but there is no indication of his condition.”
Shocked passers-by looked on at the vehicle careered off the pavement and collided with the lampost.
Great Southern Road was closed between the roundabout with Whinhill Road and Riverside Drive to allow the car to be recovered, leading to delays in both directions.
The northbound lane of the dual carriageway was re-opened at 2pm and one lane of the southbound route followed about 45 minutes later.
The Mercedes was eventually recovered at 4pm and the road was fully re-opened.
The entrance to Great Southern Road from Murray Terrace was also blocked off meaning First Aberdeen could not run its usual number 17 bus route.
Speaking from the scene customer service agent Phillip Legge said: “We had to divert our service from its usual route for around 20 to 25 minutes.
“Our buses were allowed on the road shortly after the incident and the service was allowed to operate again.”
A car crashed into a lamppost on the same road last October.
