The leader of the Scottish Conservatives has said she believes her party is on course to secure more seats than ever in the north-east of Scotland at next year’s Holyrood elections.
On a visit to Aberdeen to talk to various businesses, leader Ruth Davidson said she believes the party have enough political clout in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray to ensure a Conservative success for the region in the next Scottish Parliament.
Ms Davidson said: “We’re putting together our manifesto for next year, and looking at how we can best support the north-east.
“I would expect to see at least one more Conservative MSP in the north-east, based on our great results in the recent by-elections up here a couple of weeks ago.
“Who is the party that will form a real, coherent challenge to the SNP? Two million people in Scotland voted no, and who will be their voice?
“The Labour party, both at a UK level and in Scotland, is having a real crisis of confidence right now, and the Liberal Democrats are wiped out.
“We have a huge opportunity right across Scotland, and nowhere more so than in the north-east, where we have traditionally had a lot of support, to rebuild and really push on.
“I think that we will have our best results ever in Scotland, with more MSPS than we ever had before.
“There’s a real need for a powerful voice putting forward an alternative option for Scotland, and the Conservatives can provide it.”
