Residents of an Aberdeenshire village are being promised a root tootin’ time this weekend.
Bennachie Leisure Centre in Insch is hosting a country and western night, with a bucking bronco, line dancing and its own licensed saloon.
The Angie King and Davie Adams Duo will also perform some classic country tunes during Saturday’s hoedown.
The event is being held to boost funds for the centre, which was at serious risk of closure earlier this year.
The centre, which is a charitable trust, revealed in April that unless it could urgently raise some money to clear its debts it would have to shut its doors.
The threat prompted a huge fundraising drive by workers and the community, who managed to raise more than £3,000 to take the popular facility out of the red.
Now Lynsey Grant, who is a regular user of the facility, has organised the country and western night to further secure its future.
She said: “We held a fundraising spinathon in July which was successful, we just did spinning for the whole day and sold baking in the cafe.
“Through that, I met Angie King, a country and western signer from Insch, who offered to sing for free. I took her up on that, and the night has just spiralled from there.
“It’s going to be a fun, family-orientated night.
“I thought this would be the best weekend to have it as the kids go back to school on the Tuesday after, so most people will be back from their holiday and it’s something fun before everyone goes back to work and school. Hopefully it will be a great night.”
As well as the musical entertainment, professional line dancers Kincardine Kickers will be performing and there will be a bucking bronco and shoot out saloon, DJ, caricature artist, rustic photo booth and games for all. Authentic American food will also be provided, and is included in the ticket price.
Attendees are also being encouraged to dress up.
Miss Grant, 34, said was delighted at the support from local businesses, adding: “A lot of people have been very supportive and helpful because they want to keep the place going and clear some more of the debts we have.
“I’ve lived here all my life and have always used Bennachie Leisure Centre. I remember when it was built and we got to choose what went in it, so it’s quite close to my heart like everyone else.
“It’s really inspiring to see everyone get involved.”
