Amputees and patients with foot ailments at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary have been given a boost by a local shop.
Slater’s Menswear has donated a huge collection of odd shoes to the hospital’s vascular ward, which will help patients struggling to find footwear to fit after their treatment.
The donation includes shoes for all ages, and will ensure there are plenty of fits.
Shop manager Bill McAulay said: “How we end up with odd shoes is in truth a mystery to us.
“We can only guess that occasionally a mismatched pair is sent to us from the manufacturers or is sold in error to a customer.
“It is a cause of some frustration to us, however we are delighted that they are going to such a good cause.”
Ward sister Evalyn Wilson added: “We would like to thank Bill for this kind donation, many of our amputees find themselves in a difficult position once they are up mobilising with their new limb, often having to buy pairs of shoes when they now only need one.
“This can be expensive and some opt for wearing their old and unsafe shoes which could lead to them falling.
“We now have a supply of excellent quality shoes which will provide some financial relief and improve their ability to mobilise safely without fear of falling.”
