Detailed plans for a £107million transformation of Aberdeen’s former council headquarters have been tabled with the local authority.
Muse and Aviva Investors submitted the formal application for a mixed office, hotel and retail scheme with the city’s planning department.
The move follows a public consultation in which 4,000 people took part, prompting changes to the design to provide more public space and greater prominence for the 16th century Provost Skene’s House.
Demolition work on the old St Nicholas House is expected to be completed by August.
Muse has entered into a long-term deal with the local authority, which will involve the site being leased out for 35 years, after which time it is handed back to council control.
Muse regional director for Scotland, Steve Turner, said the scheme would provide 300 construction jobs and the potential to “support or create” 1,500 more posts when the development is fully occupied.
He added: “This is obviously an important stage for the project and we are delighted to be in a position to submit a planning application which we believe has the potential to make a long-term positive impact on the economy in Aberdeen.”
Valerie Watts, chief executive at the local authority, said: “The project has reached a significant milestone with the submission of the planning application.”
