Spate of thefts in Aberdeenshire prompts police plea

Aberdeenshire police are urging people to take “every possible precaution” to guard their motors following a recent rise in thefts.
Officers have noted an increase in incidents in the Formartine and Deeside areas.
Three cars were targeted by thieves in the Bridge Gardens area of Newburgh between 6pm on Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday.
A vehicle in Banchory and another in Aboyne were also broken into on Thursday.
Local area commander for Aberdeenshire South, chief inspector Richard Craig, said: “Aberdeenshire is a very safe place to live with relatively low levels of crime but we cannot become complacent.
“The best way to prevent crime is to take simple steps to deter opportunistic thieves.
“Drivers should always ensure that their vehicle is secured when left unattended, this includes making sure all doors are locked and windows closed.
“We would also ask that if anyone witnesses any suspicious activity they contact Police Scotland on 101.”
