Icelandair have today announced they will be starting regular flights between Aberdeen and Reykjavik commencing early next year as the operator celebrates 70 years of flying to Scotland.
The service is set to start on March 9, flying four times weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
As it stands, Glasgow is the only Scottish destination which Icelandair operates in.
However, CEO of Icelandair, Birkir Holm Gudnason, is keen to connect Aberdeen to Icelandair’s 15 gateways in North America including New York, Seattle and Toronto.
He said: “We see great opportunities in connecting this market to our route network of North American destinations.
“Travel times will be shortened and we’re confident customers will appreciate the easy connections in our hub in Iceland.”
Carol Benzie, managing director at Aberdeen International Airport, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Icelandair to Aberdeen, our first direct flight to Iceland.
“We look forward to working with Icelandair and its subsidiary Air Iceland and wish them every success with the route.”
Customers will be able to purchase flights from August 24.
