A man today admitted stealing a bus and driving it recklessly in Aberdeen while high on drugs.
Hans Reid, 26, took the Stagecoach vehicle, from the Guild Street bus station on Saturday, May 16, before driving around the city colliding with other road users and “street furniture”.
Several police vehicles gave chase .
The coach was driven at speed along Guild Street, Queens Road, Forest Road, Forest Avenue, Kings Gate, Rosemount Place, Skene Square, Wapping Street, South College Street, Wellington Road, Great Southern Road, Union Street, Rose Street and Carden Place through red traffic light signals.
At one point the single decker went through a red traffic light on the opposite side of the carriageway coming in the direction of oncoming traffic.
The drugged up bus thief then kicked constable Alison McGillivray after he was taken in to custody at Kittybrewster Police Station on May 17.
Appearing in court, Reid admitted a string of driving charges, including the theft of the bus, driving the vehicle while unfit to be behind the wheel through drink or drugs , with no insurance and no licence for that type of vehicle and assaulting a police officer after he was arrested.
Defence lawyer Gail Goodfellow told the court yesterday that her client had been under the influence of drugs when he was driving the vehicle.
Sheriff Annella Cowan said: “In one view your client celebrated his release from prison by stealing a bus.”
The sheriff deferred sentence for background reports and the consideration of a supervised release order.
Reid will be remanded in custody until he is sentenced later this year.
