A special ceremony was held at a historic Aberdeenshire crossing to mark the 300th anniversary of its creation by a Donside Jacobite.
Poldhullie Bridge, which spans the River Don at Strathdon, was hand-crafted in 1715 by John Forbes, also known as the “Black Jock” of Inverernan.
Mr Forbes, who was also the bailie of Kildrummy, died in the same year he finished building his bridge.
He was captured at the battle of Sherriffmuir, and died in his jail cell just before his execution.
The Lonach Highlanders and Pipe Band and schoolchildren from Strathdon marked the occasion with the unveiling of a commemorative cast-iron plaque this week.
Head teacher at Strathdon School, Lilian Field, said: “We feel very privileged to be able to commemorate the construction of a local bridge which has provided a route for travellers and local people for the past 300 years.”
